Howto modify the default search engine URL in Firefox
Posted by: fidel in How to, mac, tags: firefox, google, redirect, searchA known problem for fireFox users:
- You want to search a foreign google page, but you always get redirected to your local google version
Example here:
- Local google = google.de
- Target google = google.com
One of many possible solutions i found in the web:
- Open FireFox
- Enter: “about:config” in the address bar
- Select a random entry and right-click it
- Select “New” -> “String”
- Enter: “keyword.URL”
- Enter: “http://www.google.com/search?q=”
- Restart Firefox
Result is as follows:
- If you Enter the searchphrase in the Firefox search-engine-field you will goto your local google
- If you enter your searchphrase in Firefoxs address bar and press enter you will visit google.com
good & easy hack i think.
Greetings
fidel
