Unfortunally i had another problem with one of my Leopard installations.

Basicly the problem was:

  • No single Desktop-Icon was visible
  • No Context-Menu on my Desktop via right-mouse-click
  • No Drag and drop to Desktop possible

I have tried several things (all without success)

  • Restarting Finder
  • Deleting Finder’s plist & restarting Finder
  • Fixing Permissions via Disk Utility
  • Resetting PRAM / NVRam

Then the final solution:

  • Installed PathFinder (trial mode)
  • Started PathFinder
  • Enabled the option to hide all Desktop elements
  • Disabled the option to hide all Desktop elements

….and that was the solution already. honestly it is a real shame that i was forced to install a 3rd party-app to fix a finder / display problem in Leopard which was for sure not related to this 3rd party-app (as it wasn’t installed before)

Noticed on macosxhints.com that several other people had similar problems (not really 1:1 the same)
