Apple released 10.5.4 yesterday.

According to the docs it looks like an update without new function but focusing on solving known problems.

Quote from the Apple docs:

General

  • Includes recent Apple security updates.
  • Resolves an issue with saving and reopening Adobe Creative Suite 3 files on a remote server.
  • Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras.
  • Addresses an issue that may result in a partially installed X11 application.
  • Improves L2TP VPN client reliability.

AirPort

  • Addresses AirPort reliability issues with 5GHz networks.
  • Addresses AirPort issues that may result in slower performance in Logic Studio or MainStage.

iCal

  • Improves overall iCal reliability for meeting requests, cancellation notices, delegation, and syncing with iPhone.
  • Resolves an issue that prevents deleting an iCal event without notifying the creator.
  • Addresses an issue in which events in all calendars affect availability.  A checkbox now enables information-only calendars to be transparent from free/busy lookups.
  • Resolves a UI issue preventing delegated calendars from showing up as a separate window.
  • Addresses an issue with copying and pasting attendees from one event to another.
  • Resolves an issue in which iCal may not delete events after a specified time interval, even when set to do so in iCal preferences.
  • Addresses an issue in which To Dos cannot be marked private.

Safari

  • Addresses a potential performance issue when loading secure web pages.
  • Resolves issues that may be encountered when accessing secure web pages with client certificates that reside on a smart card.

Spaces and Exposé

  • Addresses an issue in which switching from a space with a Finder window keeps the Finder as the active application instead of the application residing in the destination space.
  • Fixes an issue in which dragging an application from the list of application assignments in Spaces System Preferences does not assign the application to the desired space.
  • Resolves an Exposé issue that may result in only a subset of windows being shown.

From my point of view its just a bug others would call it inconsistent

Open Preview in 10.5 and compare the print dialog if you:

  • Open the dialog with  the shortcut APPLE+P

or

  • Via the menu file -> print

Stumbled upon a strange problem / bug today during a conversation in ##mac at irc.freenode.ne

Seems like some users do have horizontal lines in certain cases on their displays. This is not a display-hardware related issue at all.

Basically it looks like it is an issue happening on some Macs with revision 1 ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics cards.

Quote from macworld.com:

Specifically, if your Mac holds a revision 1 ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card, you could see these horizontal lines. They seem to appear more often when your graphics card is running hot. It tends to do so more often under Leopard than Tiger because Leopard taxes the card to a greater extent, thanks to its many swoopy graphics effects.

If you can extract your graphics card — you have a Mac Pro, for example — switch off your Mac, ground yourself, and do so. Check its cooling fan — in all likelihood it’s caked with dust. Use a can of compressed air to blow away that gunk. While you have the Mac open, take a gander inside and see if there are other clumps of dust that might be blocking its fans. If so, clean them out.

If that doesn’t solve your problem (or you have a model such as an iMac that doesn’t let you access its innards), contact Apple. There are reports of Apple swapping out rev 1 cards, which display this problem, for revision 2 cards that seem to work without incident.

Seems like my hosting server prefers to be unstable at the moment. Well i’ll gonna run some backups now and then freeze the blog for about a week or similar until there is a new server running.

This will affect my blog, email and irc. Sorry for the inconveniences.

Still playing a lot with AppleScript in Xcode 3.0

One interessting issue….since about 2 or 3 days it seems that my code needs much more time to compile. Xcode in general feels a bit laggy.

Well as the Tierprogramm code is still < 2000 lines i keep wondering about that.

Had the ueber-lag yesterday. The remarkable part is that i was not compiling at this moment. Just crazy. Restarting XCode solved the issue.

Hooray.

I had a horrible bug/problem for several month now with firefox and flash.

embedded flash movies (i.e. from Youtube) were only shown if i almost scolled away from them. Seemed like the scroll-out action reanimated the flash-content each time.

Well as i haven’t found a solution for this issue i personally blamed Adobe for it…..but… i was WRONG.

Seems like this is a known issue of Adblock (Version 0.7.5.1 )

There is really no need to de-activate AdBlock (way to important for me).

Solution (at least for me and many others):

  • Open Firefox
  • Enter: about:config in the addressbar
  • Use the filterlist to find this entry: extensions.adblockplus.frameobjects and change it to false
  • Restart Firefox

Enjoy flash movies like you never did before hehe.

The article above list some other ideas, so if you still have the problem continue reading :)
