It seems to be a repeating question in Mac OS X related irc-channels, so let’s write the solution down once again.

Mac OS X has several methods to burn files. Unfortunally there is no pre-installed all-in-one burning solution so many users end up using free burn-apps like Burn or commercial apps like Toast. In general using a specific burn-app makes sense…but maybe the following solution is enough for you.

Now lets see how you can burn ISO’s using Disk Utility

  • Insert a blank disc.
  • Start Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app)
  • From the File menu, choose “Open Disk Image” and select the ISO you want to burn
  • In the list of volumes, you will now see an item representing the ISO file. Select it.
  • Click the Burn button and follow the instructions.
