A short list of Plugins i don’t want to miss on my boxes while using FireFox 3.

  • AdBlock Plus - Most important Plugin ever for me. It blocks ads, based on a managed list and gives the user the option to add additional content to be blocked. I do sync with Cedric’s list which served me great the last 3 years
  • CustomizeGoogle - Gives you the option to customize your google search results. In my case i get links to other search-engines, but the plugin offers more options then just that.
  • FastDial - Fast access to your favorit pages through thumbnails
  • Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer - Sync your browser favorits over the net. You need a free foxmarks account to use that
  • (Mac) FireFox-Mac-PDF - Plugin displays PDF inside FireFox

Yeah, its a short list as i dislike having a list of 20 or 30 plugins in my FireFox installations. But those 5 plugins do offer the basic function i need in my daily working day.

Collegue at work forwarded this url and i have to call it the URL of the Day.

Basically its a homepage which collects custom Quick look Plugins.

Its a must for Quick Look lovers

Edit:

Regarding installation:

Those plugins do have a .qlgenerator extension. You can copy them to:

  • /Library/QuickLook/
  • /Users/yourUser/Library/QuickLook/

I have choosen the second location, so i was forced to create the folder first.

To get them working you need to restart, relogin or just running the following command in terminal.app:

qlmanage -r

I am using the zip, applescript, folder, pkg and chm plugins at the moment.

I have found a German - english dictionary plugin for Mac OS X5.

You can read more about the plugin here.

Quote from the project:

This package enhances Mac OS X Leopard’s (10.5) Dictionary.App by providing the complete german-english vocabulary from the fabulous dict.cc dictionary for offline use.
It works great in Dictionary.App and other core OS X services like Spotlight or Dictionary-Widget.

Well the bad news at the end:

This is limited to 10.5, as dictionary in 10.4 does not supports plugins.

Just found 2 great apps to customize the contextual menu in Mac OS X

About NuFile:

NuFile(pronounced new-file (Nu is a greek letter)) is a contextual menu plugin. It adds a new file menu when you right click at a folder(ie: desktop or Finder background); just like what you can do in Windows. With this menu, you can create an empty file of your favourite type with just two clicks(“it’s just one click if you hold the button down ;)”–Endian). It’s a time saver especially if you have a two-button mouse (ex: Apple’s sleeky mighty mouse) or if you use RazzFazz’s iScroll2. If you like this program, and want to see its improvement please consider making a donation.

About DocumentPalette:

Create new documents directly in open folders

Document Palette runs in the background and allows you to create new documents in the current folder. With a folder active in Finder, press Control+Option+Command+N to make the palette appear, then select the document type you wish to create.

Using the palette

From an active folder, press the key combination below.

Contro+Option+Command+N
After the palette pops up, select a document type and you’re done.

Customizing the palette

You can add any type of document to the palette. Simply create a blank document using an editor, then drag it to the document list in Document Palette’s Preferences window.

Not just empty files

Add files with content to create document types that work like stationery pads or templates. A file with content.

If you ever need a SVN solution for your Mac OS X, check out SCPlugin.

Developers recently published version 0.7.1 - see the related article about more informations in this version.

Best news first, it is Leopard compatible.

Quote:

I've just put up release 0.7.1 of SCPlugin, in our "Documents & files"
area as usual.

This release includes three significant new features:

  • Fix of a bug that caused us to lose user name and password that
had been entered into the check out dialog,
unless you tabbed about before hitting (Checkout)
  • Inclusion of Subversion version 1.4.6
  • PGP signature for the image, for your protection

The astute reader will notice that this release does *not* (as earlier
promised) include Subversion 1.5. That's because Subversion 1.5 has
been somewhat delayed. Never fear: SCPlugin will provide you with
Subversion 1.5 as soon as it's available. In the mean time, you can
look over the SVN 1.4.6 bug fixes at

   http://svn.collab.net/repos/svn/tags/1.4.6/CHANGES

This update is recommended for all SCPlugin users. This installer and
product will work on 10.3 (Panther), 10.4 (Tiger), and 10.5 (Leopard),
both PowerPC and Intel, 32-bit and 64-bit systems.
