From my point of view its just a bug others would call it inconsistent
Open Preview in 10.5 and compare the print dialog if you:
- Open the dialog with the shortcut APPLE+P
or
- Via the menu file -> print

I noticed Apple’s automator at the beginning of my switch to OS-X but i never used in the first month. Some weeks ago i reached the point that i was forced to auto-resize several images and it was clear that it should be done automaticly…for sure
So i checked out Automator again. The following example is based on resizing images but you can create workflows for almost all applications which can work with Apple Script.
Example:
- Open automator
- Select “Finder” in the Library column
- Select “Get selected Finder Items” from Actions column and drag it to the Workflow column
- Select “Preview” in the Library column
- Select “Scale images” from Actions column and drag it to the Workflow column
So now you should have a 2-Step workflow. As element 1 the Finder action followed by the Scale Action using Preview.
Now lets test:
Select some images in Finder and Press “Run” in Automator.
As result the selected images should be replaced by re-scaled images. Really simple, but i guess a good example what automator can do for you.
Apple offers several Workflows there.
Have fun with it, best regards
