Mittlerweile dürften einige Leute wissen dass der Großteil der Einnahmen die die Mozilla foundation jährlich einstreicht aus dem Hause Google kommen.

Warum ?

Ganz einfach, Google ist die Default-Startseite bei FireFox und Google ist auch die Default-Suchmaschine in der Suchleiste rechts oben.

Genauso wie Apple also mit ihrer Search in Google Implementierung im Kontext-Menü jährlich ordentliche Summen von google kassiert, tut dies also Mozilla mittels fireFox auch. Nur eben in einer anderen Liga.

Personally i don’t even use Spotlight ( my folder&filename-system is superior hrhr ) but if you like Spotlight, take some time and read this article from Kirk McElhearn on macworld.com

A known problem for fireFox users:

• You want to search a foreign google page, but you always get redirected to your local google version

Example here:

• Local google = google.de
• Target google = google.com

One of many possible solutions i found in the web:

1. Open FireFox
2. Enter: “about:config” in the address bar
3. Select a random entry and right-click it
4. Select “New” -> “String”
5. Enter: “keyword.URL”
6. Enter: “http://www.google.com/search?q=”
7. Restart Firefox

Result is as follows:

• If you Enter the searchphrase in the Firefox search-engine-field you will goto your local google
• If you enter your searchphrase in Firefoxs address bar and press enter you will visit google.com

Der freie Webbrowser “Firefox” hat einige netten Funktionen über die ich gerade gestolpert bin.

Ein sehr direkter Zugriff auf bestimmte Suchdienste. Wer desöfteren, wie ich, die Seiten Dict.Leo.org oder de.wikipedia.org besucht kennt sicherlich schon den Weg des zusätzlichen Suchmaschinen hinzufügens.

Schön und gut in der Theorie, hat aber den Nachteil dass ich immer erst mal umswitchen muss.

Leichter geht es so:

Man übergibt Firefox in der URL-Leiste ein Schlüsselwort und den eigentlichen Suchbegriff.
