Found an interessting article in the dovecot wiki about using Thunderbird for debugging. The hint covers all operating systems basicly.
Quote:
Thunderbird has the ability to log its client actions based on protocol; this can be useful when you’re experiencing a problem with Dovecot and want to trap the commands that the client is sending.
We used that already at work and it was really helpful.

Maybe i am not the usual Mac-User….i guess i am really not. With my switch from 10.4 to 10.5Â i tried Mail.app once again.
Impressions after some weeks:
- Strange folder visualization (contra Mail.app)
- Editing my sub-folders-structur was a mess with Mail.app (contra Mail.app)
- No real calendar solution inside the Mail-Client (contra Mail.app)
So finally back to Thunderbird as it offers:
- hundreds of plugins & extensions
- works on all platforms

with the switch from 10.4 to 10.5 i have changed my mail-client from thunderbird back to mail.app
basicly as i wasn’t 100% happy with thunderbird and on the other hand to give mail.app another chance.
Weeks later….not really happy with mail.app
Lets see what Correo brings….
Introducing Correo, a new open-source mail client for Mac OS X. Correo blends technology from two popular Mozilla projects, Camino and Thunderbird, to create a polished native Macintosh application.
There are many planned features for the mail client, including plugin capability (to allow development of extensions such as PDA synchronization), tabbed window interface, address book support, keychain access, and various other to-be-determined features.

I am a Thunderbird user, maybe cause i am used to it from Linux (Debian) and several Microsoft Windows installations at work. Another reason “could be” that Mail.app is really not that good if you compare the features list.
At least from my point of view…anyways
I was always wondering if it would be possible to get Thunderbird working with Apples Addressbook. Basicly it is, but till now its only done by several individuals as work-around.
I have found several pages discussiong this issue:
If you want to push that issue forward you should really create yourself a Bugzilla-Account here and vote for the following bug-entry
Bugzilla Entry:
Bug 203927 ï ¿ ½ Add ability to read from Mac OS X system Address Book
Would be really great to get this implementation working…so lets hope for Thunderbird 2.0 or whatever
Best regards
fidel
